How Kate Herbert Found Her Dream Job

Have you ever wondered: What would it be like to work in a startup environment with all the financial backing of big tech? 

Well, that is Kate Herbert’s job, and it sounds like a dream.

She is the Director of Strategy & Business Development – Identity at Oracle Data Cloud, and she is also one of the original advisors and Mentors here at The Forem.

Her varied experience includes working for both early-stage startup management teams and heading up business units at the world’s largest tech companies (like DoubleClick, Google, and Twitter).

Her work is fast and scrappy, and that’s just how she likes it.

How did she end up in a role that fits her passions so perfectly? 

She listened to what she loved and kept looking for those opportunities.

One of her early “lightbulb” career moments was when she was tasked with growing the DoubleClick Ad Exchange at Google. The experience taught her that she really enjoyed early stage business and the pioneering effort it takes to build something from the ground up.

Then, she took a leap of faith.

She packed up her playbook of best practices and took her exchange building skills to a promising startup called MoPub, a venture led by a former Google Product Manager. The stars aligned: MoPub’s vision was to become “the DoubleClick of Mobile” and Kate was uniquely qualified for that mission.

As VP of Client Services at MoPub, she hired a stellar team of Account Managers, Technical Consultants and Business Analysts who grew the business from zero to a $100M Revenue Run Rate in two years (and had a ton of fun along the way). MoPub was sold to Twitter for $350M and continues to thrive as a leading in-app exchange.

That experience paved the way for Kate’s current role with her amazing team of top talent.
